Ever since I can remember I’ve had a creative personality. I loved to draw and color as a child. Every year for Christmas I asked for one of those art kits with all of the colored pencil crayons, markers and paint. I loved arts and crafts and still do to this day. In fact, my mom still has some pretty embarrassing hand-made ornaments from my younger days. I want to believe that my skills have improved over the years (at least I hope). I now enjoy writing, journaling, scrapbooking, making hand-made cards for my husband, putting together little home movies, taking pictures, sewing (at a very beginner level), and pretty much any other DIY project you can think of.
In May of 2017 I became a mom for the first time to a beautiful boy named Calvin and my whole world changed for the better. While on my year of maternity leave (thank you Canada), I decided to start the blog I’ve been wanting to create for as long as I can remember.
I was born and raised in a small city in North Eastern Ontario and still reside here today. I created Northern Mom as an outlet for everything and anything mom-life, as well as the trials and triumphs I experience as I trudge through the realities of motherhood.
Some of our biggest trials to date stem from the fact that my son was born with a condition called Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia (TEF/EA for short), a rare birth defect that only affects about 1 in every 4500 children. A part of the blog focuses on raising awareness towards TEF/EA, and our journey with the condition. You can read more about it in the “Calvin’s Condition” page.
I hope you enjoy!
